At 35-years-old, Matt Shupe is the second youngest GOP county chair in California.
A lifelong Republican, Shupe’s interest in limited government and free-market capitalism began at five-years-old. While in college, he was the Chairman of the Fresno State College Republicans and served as the Chief of Staff of the California College Republicans. Since college, he's served as the Executive Director, Political Director, and Communications Director of the California Young Republicans Federated.
Professionally, Shupe is a nationally recognized and awarded GOP strategist. He was named 40 under 40 by the American Association of Political Consultants in 2017. In 2018, his business earned a Pollie Award, equivalent to an Emmy for the political industry, for its use of Digital Media. In 2019, he was named one of the top 5 political communications professionals in California.
Shupe earned his bachelor’s degrees in both Political Science and Mass Communications and Journalism with an emphasis in Public Relations from California State University, Fresno. He is also a graduate of the Republican National Committee’s Campaign Management College.
In addition to his role as chair, Shupe currently serves as the Executive Director of the California Young Republicans Federated, is a delegate to the California Republican Party, and currently resides in Walnut Creek, Calif.
As chair, Shupe’s priorities are simple: get Republicans elected to local office and to grow the presence of the Republican Party throughout Contra Costa County.
